Majia's paraphrasing of comments made in video by Prof Kaltofen about his research on Fukushima radiation:

Methodology of research involves air and soil samples tested for radionuclides. E.g., We blow air through a filter and then examine the particles in the filter

Safecast in Japan provides crowd sourcing environmental sampling by volunteer experts.

Samples are collected and sent overseas and we look for cesium and uranium

We examine how much is in soil, air, and measure percentage of overall particles

What we are really worried about are radioactive dust particles that could cause tumors in lung cells

We look at what is actually in people’s dust.

Air filters from autos are particularly helpful.

Fukushima radiation is evidenced by radionuclides that are shorter lived, including Cesium 134 an Iodine 131.

We have seen rainouts when a rainstorm washes out radionuclides that were in the atmosphere leading to hot spots—too many isolated spots in the US to readily identify.

In the US your risk of exposure to hot particles is less likely than in Japan, although concentrations were relatively high (as compared to normal).

Food should be tested in the US for cesium and iodine.

There exist 60 laboratories across world that could be testing food. They aren’t being used to test food.
