Terrified

I am terrified that such people exist:
The CIA Didn’t Just Torture, It Experimented on Human Beings: Reframing the CIA’s interrogation techniques as a violation of scientific and medical ethics may be the best way to achieve accountability. By Lisa Hajjar December 16, 2014 | http://www.thenation.com/article/193185/cia-didnt-just-torture-it-experimented-human-beings

Human experimentation was a core feature of the CIA’s torture program. The experimental nature of the interrogation and detention techniques is clearly evident in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s executive summary of its investigative report, despite redactions (insisted upon by the CIA) to obfuscate the locations of these laboratories of cruel science and the identities of perpetrators.

At the helm of this human experimentation project were two psychologists hired by the CIA, James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen. They designed interrogation and detention protocols that they and others applied to people imprisoned in the agency’s secret “black sites.”

....Their “theory” had a particular means-ends relationship that is not well understood, as Mitchell testily explained in an interview on Vice News: “The point of the bad cop is to get the bad guy to talk to the good cop.” In other words, “enhanced interrogation techniques” (the Bush administration’s euphemism for torture) do not themselves produce useful information; rather, they produce the condition of total submission that will facilitate extraction of actionable intelligence...

I felt ill reading this article. Of course, I knew the truth long before I read it. Fukushima, the BP Oil Spill, the Financial Crisis, Atmospheric Testing, etc have demonstrated that the problem truly is that we are run by intelligent psychopaths because our social systems succor and reinforce their value orientation.

The problem with psychopaths and sociopaths is that they have no moral conscience when it comes to other humans. Bright psychopaths may be a minority among us, but our narcissistic consumer culture encourages this way of being in the world, as does the violence produced by our families, government, workplaces, and cultural industries.

A study recently described by Forbes Magazine found that those individuals with the most market success in a simulated environment also measured highest on psychological inventories of psychopathic tendencies, minus the tendency toward disorganization:

The researchers paint a powerful picture of Homo economicus: “We see a person who is intelligent, driven to excel and to dominate other people, and capable of impulse control and of working toward long-term goals. In other words, Homo economicus is the prototypical member of the social and economic elite.”

Homo-economicus - the rational actor of the market - turns out to be a highly functional psychopath. The system reinforces these tendencies and NORMALIZES them so that we accept this value orientation because it is ordinary and seemingly natural.

However, homo-economicus is engineering our imminent self-destruction. We will be driven to extinction by our complacency to an ultimately genocidal madness.

So there just may be hope that the worst of this may becoming to an end. Good and interesting article.
